How to be happier in everyday life
When you have a busy life, it's easy to get pulled in all different directions, and forget how important is to take care of our mental health. Only when we are relaxed and serene we can find happiness in the little things, and ultimately be fulfilled and satisfied with our lives.
Here are my top tips to feel happier in your everyday life:
1. Focus on one thing at a time
There is only so much we can do at a time, especially when juggling work and kids, and when the lines between work and free-time are so blurred. Setting priorities and boundaries is helpful to focus on one thing at a time and feel less overwhelmed and guilty for not being able to do it all. Whatever you are doing, try to be fully present and focus your attention on what is more important at that moment.
2. Recognise negative triggers
Try to understand what are the things that can add up to your stress or anxiety, so you can avoid them, or replace them with something positive. Perhaps reading certain news first thing in the morning puts you in a bad mood all day? Try and do it when you are more relaxed. Seeing what others are doing on social media triggers negative feelings in you? Contemplate a digital detox for a bit, or filled your free time with something that makes you feel good instead.
3. Look at the bright side
Despite the challenges, this year gave us the amazing chance to reflect on what really matters in our lives. There is no better time to think (or rethink) about how we can be more fulfilled, and what are the big or small changes we can make to be happier. Maybe we will realised we are not completely satisfied of our job, or that we value our relationships more than ever; maybe we will understand we want to spend more time in nature or that appreciate even more what we already have.
4. Take care of yourself
When you treat yourself as you would treat a dear friend, you boost your self-esteem and feel more confident and relaxed. With a good mood and positive outlook over your life, it will be easier to go after the things that make you truly happy and feel better overall.
