How to take care of yourself
When we hear the word self-care we have the tendency to think about the luxury of doing something to treat or pamper ourselves.
In reality, self-care really means protecting our own wellbeing and happiness: it means doing what we know our body, mind and heart really need, in order to stay positive, feel good (or better) and be able to function as a human being.
And if you don’t function, nothing else will!
Although we might feel there is not enough time for ourselves with all the things we juggle, just a few minutes a day can make a huge difference!
I have created my Mood cards with this in mind: they contain practical activities that can be done in just a few minutes, but have a long-lasting impact as they encourage growth, self-reflection and positivity, to help you get into a positive mindset.
Here are some of my favorites self-care activities:
1. Feel good about yourself
Each morning, pick an accessory, a piece of clothing, or apply a little make up to feel good about yourself and the way you look. Maybe you can wear your favourite earrings, or skirt, or put some lipstick on. It’s a little gesture of self-love that will help you start the day with the right foot.
2. Take a little break
Sometimes we might feel a bit overwhelmed during the day, perhaps because we are trying to balance out work deadlines and being present with our kids at home. Taking a few minutes to pause can help us switch off for a moment, and get back to what we were doing with a clearer mind. Going for a little walk outside without our phone, or playing a game with our kids can be the perfect way to recharge and boost our mood.
3. Dance it out
At the end of a long day, there is nothing better than releasing any stress or worry and loosening up. Put on your favourite tunes and get everybody to dance it out! I love doing this with the whole family after dinner: It’s a lovely way to connect and have fun together and end the day on a positive note.
